St Mark

Patron of Attorneys, Captives and Notaries

Figurine comes nicely displayed in a clear fronted box with the the Story of the saint on the outside and a prayer card inside.

Author of the second Gospel, Mark was a disciple of Peter.  He is said to have travelled with peter and Barnabas, who was Mark’s cousin, on missionary work on the island of Cyprus.  He is also said to have been with Peter and Paul in Rome; and is credited with establishing the Church in Alexandria.

Believed to have been written in Rome some time before the year 60 AD, the Gospel of Mark was written Greek for the Gentile converts to Christianity.  It is widely held that the Romans requested that Mark document the teachings of Peter.  This is supported by the fact the the second Gospel is a record of the life of Jesus from the perspective of Peter.

Representations of Mark often include lions or winged lions, and scrolls or books representing his Gospel.  He is the patron Saint of attorneys, captives, notaries, lions, Egypt, Venice, Florida and Venice, Italy.

Feast Day: April 25
