Figurine comes nicely displayed in a clear fronted box with the the Story of the saint on the outside and a prayer card inside.

Raymond was born in Portello, Catalonia, Spain.  His mother died during childbirth, and he was delivered by caesarean surgery.  This event created his surname, non natus, which if Latin for “not born”. Raymond joined the Mercedian order under St Peter Nolasco in Barcelona, Spain.  He became chief ransomer for the order, and was sent to Algiers to liberate captive prisoner.  During this time, he did much preaching to the people of Algiers and converted them to Christianity. This angered the local authorities, who took Raymond himself hostage.  He was subjected to many indignities and cruelties at the hands of his captors, and was eventually sentenced to death.  The governor of the region commuted the sentence to imprisonment, at the hopes of securing a great ransom for his release.  After eight months he was released, and returned to Barcelona.  In 1239, he was appointed Cardinal.  He died a year later.  In 1657 he was canonized as a saint.

Prayer to Saint Raymond Nonnatus

Glorious St Raymond, filled with compassion for those who invoke thee, and with love of those who suffer heavily laden with the weight of my troubles,  I cast myself at thy feet and humbly beg of thee to take the present affair which I recommend to thee under thy special protection.

Vouchsafe to recommend it to the Blessed Virgin Mary and lay it before the Throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue.  Cease, not to intercede for me until my request is granted.  Above all, obtain for me the grace of one day beholding my God face to face and with thee and Mary and the saints praising and blessing to all eternity.
